Matt enlisted with the Marines back in 1998 after being approached by a recruiter late one night in the middle of a mall parking lot. At 19 years of age Matt was struggling to find his purpose and direction as a recent high school graduate who had no desire to go to college like many of his friends. Days after his initial visit with the recruiter Matt found himself signing a 4-year contract with the Marines (with little discussion with his parents) and only 2 months later was boarding a plane for basic training.
Matt's experience forever changed the trajectory of his life, having served on active duty for 8 years as an Infantry Marine and being selected as a Marine Combat Instructor at the School of Infantry in Camp Pendleton, California. While his training and experience in the Marines laid the foundation for a successful career in corporate management and business ownership, Matt has always remained passionate about his time in service and has remained an advocate for his brothers and sisters in the United States Armed Forces. While the military certainly isn't for everyone, Matt strongly believes it can be a life-changing decision for some. After having helped several young men and their families navigate the process of considering and preparing for military service, Matt realized there is a tremendous need that is not being met for families in this situation. Because he is both passionate about military service, but also understands the heart and mind of parents having two daughters himself, Matt set out on a journey over the last year to develop this new revolutionary program, FIT4DUTY.
